“No eye has seen, so ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)
Our limited minds attempt to grasp what God has prepared for us, but so much remains beyond our comprehension. The Apostle John was given a glimpse into the new heaven and the new earth, and his Book of Revelation gives us a picture of what is to come. Strengthened by the truth that we know, we can press on as overcomers, and model our lives after the heroes of the faith who have gone before us, and are even now cheering us on as that “great cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1)
How amazing it is to consider that those who have gone before us in faith are waiting, so that together with us they will be made perfect in the ultimate fulfillment of God’s plan-before-time-began, in which He will receive full glory and unending praise from His people.
“All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.” (Hebrews 11:13-16)
“These were commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.” (Hebrews 11:39-40)
“But you have come to
, to the heavenly Mount Zion , the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant…” (Hebrews 12:22-24) Jerusalem
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the
, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God’.” (Revelation 21:1-3) Holy City
“He said to me: ‘It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give water to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this and I will be his God and he will be my son.” (Revelation 21:6-7)
“No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.” (Revelation 22:3-4)
“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.” (Revelation 22:20-21)
With incomparable hope and a sense of purpose to our lives, we can live in light of eternity and in preparation for our heavenly home!
“Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” (1 Corinthians 13:12)
Come, Lord Jesus!
